Very pleased with this one!

This is one of the watercolours that I did in my class. It is made with inks.

I tangled it today and used my new chalks, black pens and coloured ones as well.

Colour! - 59 pkg of Sakura Micron Pens

I got my 59 package of Sakura Pens in the post today and was I ever surprised to find out that they were not mostly black ink pens as I thought.

Rather, they are mostly colour!

So... what to do with colour pens... have some fun... that's what!!!

Let's get started. Drew some circles with my new compass.

I added some chalk to the finished piece and... VOILA! My first colour piece!

12" x 9"

ps definitely not a great piece but man... using colour is mind-boggling when you normally use black.  There was a lot less Zen in this piece and much more "hmmm... what colour/tangle next?"

Chalks

I have a 20% coupon for Willow Yarns. I bought these blending chalks for my art and they sent me this coupon (even though I didn't buy from Willow Yarns) - so I thought I'd share it with you all.

Code: w15a1 - valid until April 30 2015.

Blending Chalk
I love these blending chalks. They add a bit of colour to a drawing/painting without overwhelming it.

I used yellow and a light red blending chalk on this image:

Lots of Shading!

This one took a lot of shading. My hands were pretty black when I was done.

I used 4H, 4B and 8B pencils with lots of different blending stumps.

7" x 10"
I love how different and unique every tangling experience is.

Next... some watercolour backgrounds!

I tangled this today. We are going to dinner at our friend's home and we are bringing the wine!

Day Six - One Zentangle A Day

I don't do these everyday - but I do love working my way through this book.

Here's my "Day Six" of One Zentangle A Day. 3.5" x 3.5" tile.

This one was harder than usual...

This one was a real challenge. My hubby, Parz drew the string for me and I took one look at it and thought, "Wow... this is a practice in mindfulness - so I don't get overwhelmed with all the tiny spaces."

I sat, connected with the page and my pen - as the designs revealed themselves to me, I drew them in.

It took me a few days to do this one. I had to keep putting it down so I could get a fresh new perspective on it.

But after all the tangles and shading... I'm pleased with the end result.
9" x 12"
Be sure to turn your head (or your computer) so you can see this one from different angles. That's an important aspect of tangling/Zentangles - there should never be an up and a down.

Tanglation

Parz has been drawing my strings lately. I love how he's connecting to the page and the pencil and allowing his inner artist to awaken.

I am not thrilled with this one... as there are aspects that simply didn't turn out as I intended. But I do love the challenge of taking something I dislike and transforming it in to something beautiful (or at least better) LOL.

Pencil Wrap

This is my pencil wrap. I got it from DeSerres and I love it. I haven't finished tangling it yet...

I've ordered another for my pens.

Small spaces...

I asked my hubby to draw the string for this one and I said, "Think small spaces" and that's what he did.

I love how I made all my tangles really tiny in this one.

And just a touch of colour!

Art Class

I went to an art class for ZIA today. We learned how to use ink to make water colour backgrounds. Did some tangling... and had a lovely day!

Here's my art for today.  I think I might frame the second one. I'm very pleased with it.

The instructor did the water colour/ink backgrounds on those ones but I created these ones myself. Can't wait to tangle them!

One Zentangle A Day

I've finally received my "One Zentangle a Day" from Amazon.ca and I've started working through it. I'm not doing it every day but I'm loving the process so far.

Here's the set-up I'm using.

Sketchbook - 8" x 10"

Then I cut out cardboard templates so I could easily recreate the squares to draw the tiles and create a Zentangle after I learn the new patterns.

My ZIA for a lazy Saturday

My 16 year old daughter drew the string for this one.

I'm going to share the before shading and after so you can see what a difference shading makes!

9" x 12" before shading
9" x 12" after shading

Tomorrow I'm taking a watercolour class. I can't wait to see what I can create.

Another Tangle!

I've been tangling for a month now!!! Happy happy happy! On the 15th of December I paid for my spot in the CZT in Rhode Island. Seems like yesterday and a lifetime ago all at the same time.

I spent the last three days creating this piece. My husband drew the string for it.

I feel this is my best work so far.

9" x 12"
I am really loving the shading process. I think that is my favourite part of doing these tangles. Funny how that was my biggest challenge when I began doing this a month ago.

And yes... it's only been a month. I am so addicted to tangling! Cannot wait to become a CZT and teach this to other people!

Coffee Cup Challenge

So I'm part of a Zentangle Facebook group and someone posted a challenge. Take your coffee cup and trace the bottom and create a Zentangle or tangle from it.

Here's mine!

I decided to use some colour - as I just picked up some pens and pencil in 'sepia' tones.

9" x 12"
I've been working my way through the book "Made in the Shade" and I love how my shading is advancing by leaps and bounds. I'm super pleased!

Jeanne Burbage - Nexxus

This is Jeanne Burbage's tangle - Nexxus

Gorgeous work on this blog!

I found this blog today and I love her work. I'm very in to the wispy, light, feathery look within my tangles and I love that she is too.

Zentangle Class

Today I went to a local Zentangle class and had a great time with a group of women who (if they weren't before the class they are now) are all like me - addicted to tangling!

The CZT instructor was telling me that there's a huge need for more instructors and she was really happy to hear that I'll be teaching as of May!

Here's the Zentangles I did today.

3.5" x 3.5" Zentangle cards
I even had the opportunity to teach shading to the class and I'll be teaching more shading next weekend at the advanced class I'm attending. I'll be learning how to incorporate water colours into a tangle! I can't wait!!!

Happy tangling!

Three day project

This one took me longer to create. It started off being a total cluster*ck of a piece. I was very unhappy with it. I'm less unhappy with it now... but it's definitely not my favourite one.

I did a lot of new tangles in this one - creating many of them as I inked them on the page.

The 3D in the bottom is my attempt at the tangle in my post before this one. It was somewhat successful. LOL I'll do better next time.

9" x 12"
Tomorrow I am taking a Zentangle class. I'm so excited. This is the class I'll be teaching later this spring after I go for my certification in April.

Wow... this is so 3D

I saw this post on a blog today and I'm going to give it a try... very coo 3D effect!

That's all... just thought I'd share.

Using initials for your string...

I wanted to support the tangle patterns page and so I purchased three of her books. In one of the books on strings... I read that one way to do a string is to use initials so I decided to give it a try.

I used my husband's initials. PS

7" x 10"
I'm really happy with what I'm learning from "Made in the Shade". In this image I used around 6 different shading pencils, my finger to blend and my usual blending tool - a tortillion.

I like this set of pencils... it has a nice variety from 4H to 6B

All new tangles!

I decided that I wanted to create something with tangles I haven't used yet.

So I went to http://tanglepatterns.com and chose one pattern at a time and tangled them.

This is another large 9" x 12" tangle and I started with a zigzag string.

This was done between BodyTalk clients, making lunch and dinner, shopping for groceries and getting blood work done. So... what I'm saying is... I got a lot done today - AND - this tangle from start to finish as well!

And then... later in the evening I made myself a little Zentangle to use as a bookmark for my Meditation Teacher Training class.

Zentangle card. 3.5" x 3.5"

Better shading on this one.

I got the book I ordered in the mail "Made in the Shade - A Zentangle Workbook" by Cris Letourneau yesterday. Spent some time reading it and doing the first few exercises last night. This morning I decided to create something new with what I learned so far.

I'm very pleased with how this turned out. I love how it simply forms on the page.

I used a string.

Took lots of deep breaths.

Waited patiently while I saw what was next..

8 hours later...

A tangled mess

Last night I started this tangle and I was very unhappy with it. It felt so overwhelmed and frustrated - emotions I was feeling before I began the tangle and I realized that they were showing up on my page.

7" x 10"

Knowing that I was releasing the emotions, I kept drawing.

I noticed that life started to happen. My emotions were calming, feeling more peace-filled.

This is what I love about this art form. It assists you - much like writing in a journal - to release and transform your emotional state for a new one.

Ahhhhh... I love tangling!
