New business cards arrived today!

I designed and ordered some new business cards for myself.

The number one question people ask me is "What is Zentangle®?" so... I designed my cards to answer that question!

At least... the art part of it. It doesn't answer the part of:

Zentangle® assists you to release stress, relax, calm yourself down, go in to the Zone, get in to a zen state of mind, lowers your blood pressure, assists your immune system... etc.

Grey is the front and black is the back side.
If you are interested in experiencing the Zentangle® Method of drawing... email me!

Beyond-the-Basics Zentangle® Class 8-22-15

Wow... what a class today was.

I am completely blown away.

My son - he's 14 - told me just over a month ago that he couldn't take one of my classes because he's not an artist. This... of course... inspired me to insist that he take at least ONE class. Just one... so I could prove to him that he is, indeed an artist. That with the Zentangle® Method everyone can connect to their inner artist.

So he came to a class. He enjoyed it... said he didn't know if he wanted to take another class.

Then he called me two days ago and said that he wanted to come to today's class because he was doing a tile and he didn't know what to put in an area and so... he wanted to learn more tangles.

Now first off... I was blown away that he was doing a tile on his own? I was so pleased.

So Parz went out to N. Van today to pick him up (he lives with his bio-Mom) and he created some gorgeous tiles today! I bet you can't pick out which one was his and which one I did. Most of the people in this class were here for their second class!

I love Zentangle®. I love what it does when people learn the method. I love how it changes their perception of themselves regarding art.

Ok... so check out these gorgeous mosaics from today's class.

A friend saw this next mosaic and she thought I drew them all. She was amazed when I told her that one of the students in the class was 14.

I loved what she 'saw' in these... Top left: centipede. Middle top: butterfly. Top right: dragonfly. Bottom left: water beetle. Bottom right: frog.

And next... our little Bijou frames and tiles. We started the class doing this one.

They ended up learning 16 new tangles in this class. Normally I teach 8-10 per class but they were sponges today!

Want to take a class with me? Contact me and let me know. If I don't have a class when you want one... I'll try to create one for you!

Homeschooling Zentangle® Group

I'm hoping to create a Homeschooling Zentangle® Group for teens in the Lower Mainland (Vancouver BC Canada) at my condo at SFU in Burnaby. I sent out a letter to the homeschooling community and hopefully it'll become reality.

It would be great for 6-8 teens to come together every week or two and draw. Spending time in a relaxing atmosphere, learning to bring some zen/meditation in to their lives.

If you know of a teen who might love this, please have them email me.

Oh and total bonus... we have GREAT transit up here since we are beside a University, so the kids can get here and back home again with ease!

A little about me... I stated homeschooling my kids almost 20 years ago. My eldest is turning 29 this year. I have kids ranging from 14 to 29.

I taught art at the Hope Homeschooling Co-op for a few years and I love working with teens! I was a therapist (many years ago) and worked with teens who were sexually abused/raped. Although this group won't have the purpose of direct therapy... Zentangle® is such a healing modality - it brings so much zen in to your life and gives you some really great coping mechanisms. In today's society of doing everything electronically - drawing really helps your fine motor skills (and yes that means your handwriting benefits!).

I'm also a Reiki Master/Teacher. I've taught meditation for years now and am in the process of becoming a Certified Meditation Instructor. So pretty much... all things zen are what I love.

So... let's see if we can make this happen!

Hi Everyone,

I am playing with an idea of putting together a group for homeschooling teens - mostly because there is so little for teens in the homeschooling community.

I was thinking of making it either once a week or once every two weeks where we’d get together and draw. I’ll teach them new tangles each time and we’ll create some art together.

The beauty of Zentangle® is you don’t need any artistic ability. If you can write an i, c, s and o then you can do Zentangle®.

If you have a teen and are interested, please send me an email and if there’s interest I’ll put something together.

My intention is to make this ‘budget friendly’ while covering the expenses for the classes. (max. $20 per class with a sliding scale)

’Til next we ‘Tangle' together,

Step-Out Cards

We have a new product for you... they are Step-Out Cards and the paper is really lovely!

You write the name of the tangle on the top of the card, then draw the tangle in the space below it. If you want you can draw the step-outs on the back. Then when you are out you can use this when deciding what tangle to draw next and it is also a reminder of what you learned.

8-16-15 Opus Art Store Demo/Class

Today I got up really early, put my supplies in the car and made my way to Langley, BC, Opus Art Store.

After Parz and I got the class all set up we had a bit of time to relax before the most wonderful group of women came in! I wish it was a longer class so I could have gotten to know them better but the warmth and loveliness of these ladies was just like a breath of sunshine on a cloudy day!

We had two hours together - they learned a bit about Zentangle® Method and we did a few tangles.

Here's our mosaic:

As you can see we had a lovely set up and one of the staff members even made this gorgeous signage for the 'Zentangle®" section in their store!

I can't thank Opus enough for inviting me to come and do a demo with them. I had a great time. Opus is my favourite art store... I absolutely love shopping there - so promoting their products was a blast!!!

We had another ah-mazing class today in Chilliwack.

Today we did a Beyond-the-Basics class and had such a great time learning some new tangles.

Plus... I gave them each a Bijou tile and when we were done they each got a little frame to take home with them. So much fun!!!

What a week!

Wow... it's been a busy week. It was my birth day and our anniversary - so we've been off in a hotel pampering each other and going out for lunch with friends and family...

But... I'm back and teaching on Saturday and Sunday!

This is what I did before my birth day:

A class with Brenda Shaver-Shahin

While I was attending CanTangle2015 I took a class with Brenda Shaver-Shahin.

It was really out of my comfort zone. I had a hard time with it.

I can't draw. I can tangle... but drawing something representational... I suck at that. So when I needed to draw representational art in this class... I just hit a wall (of frustration, inability and unease).

This week I completed my piece which I barely started in class.

And... are you ready for this? It's my favourite piece of art to date. I'm pretty sure I'm going to frame this piece!

I used Inktense and Koi Watercolours.

It makes me feel happy. Very happy. Playful. Alive and I get this sense of hope for the future when I look at it.

So thank you Brenda... for assisting me to grow in a direction I never expected.

The Meditation of Zentangle

On the weekend Parz and I had a Zentangle® picnic in North Vancouver. We sent out an invitation to other people but were happy to spend the time alone (as no one was able to join us).

I lead him in a meditation of drawing and it was a lovely experience for us both.

Here's our art:

I'm thinking of offering a free night once every few months where people can come to our condo and enjoy a guided meditation of drawing...

If you are interested, send me an email and I'll keep you updated. (or subscribe to our newsletter - link at the top of this blog)
